Lyndon Baines Johnson(LBJ)was born on August 27,1908. He was born in a  town named Stonewall, Texas. He had one brother and three sisters. His brother Sam H. Johnson, and his sisters were Rebekah, Josefa, and Lucia. He lived in a small farmhouse in a poor area on the Pedernales River. The small nearby town Johnson City,Texas was named after LBJ’s father’s cousin. In school, Johnson was elected president of his eleventh grade class. He graduated from Johnson City High School in 1924.

In 1926, Johnson had enrolled in Southwest Texas State Teacher’s College. He worked his way through school, participated in debates, and dropped out in 1927, one year later. He returned in 1928 and finished in 1930. As, he got out of college his was a teacher. The high school he taught was Pearsall High School in Pearsall, Texas. That was his job before started his political career.

Lyndon B. Johnson’s political party is called the Democrats. The Democrats are one of two major groups of the political parties the other being Republicans. It was founded by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. It really started when Andrew Jackson became president in the 1830’s.

 As president LBJ, he made some tough decisions. He did somethings that JFK wanted to do and some other things. He had finished a new civil rights bill and a tax cut. Also, he had a thing called the,”Great Society.”In 1964, he ran for his next term which he won with a huge margin with popular votes which was more than 15,000,000. The Great Society was one of the many focuses of LBJ. The Great Society was aid education, attack on diseases, Medicare and Medicaid, and a lot of other things to make a better country. In 1965, the Congress passed the Social Security Act and voting rights for people of color.

Johnson also went through some controversies. The first was about some of the colored people which troubled the nation. The second was starting in Vietnam, even though Johnson tried to stop Communist, it stilled continued. The people didn’t like Johnson’s idea to go to war with Vietnam. He also limited the bombing of North Vietnam in order to negotiate. At the same time he withdrawled as a candidate for re-election.

When he left  office, peace talks were under way. He did not live to see it go sucessfully,because he died suddenly of a heart attack at his Texas ranch on January 22,1973. He died two days after Nixon’s second Inaugural Address.
